FYI

Okay - so I found another lovely blog that I thought I'd share with y'all! I love finding/reading blogs like this one. I really could just sit here all day and read away....except for the little voices in the background asking "what's for lunch, momma?" ;)
So, here it is - http://www.pepperknit.com/ - go check it out! You may be very glad you did!

Summer Catch Up

Well, how are all y'all doing this summer?!?! Staying cool? HA! Not in our "neck of the woods"! It's been 106+ degrees here....hot, hot, hot! We have a big back yard - that my boys are not enjoying mowing right now! - but no one wants to play in it these day...not even on the trampoline! SO - we got a mini pool. Not one of those little kid plastic ones - my kids wouldn't even fit anymore! This one is about 10' by 30" or something like that. All 5 of my little peeps can play at once with enough room to not clobber each other! We've had it 3 days now and they've every one of those days out in it! Lovely! Even I've been out in it a couple time - so refreshing to get into some water during the heat.
On the crafting side of things.... :) ...it's been a bit slow around here. Trying to get odds and ends finished up, some gifts made for weddings, birthdays,etc...Summer isn't as conducive to my types of crafting, at least for me. Plus the kids are not on a regular chores/school schedule so....the crafts can wait - or squeeze in between, if possible! This time with my kids is going all too quickly anyways and I know there will be days ahead that I will have more than enough time to do other things!  Hope your summer is full and rewarding. God bless!

Fun Friday

Well, I've taken a little break with crochet. Need some time to think of some more ideas....and re-gain my motivation to do it! Do you ever get a little burnt out? I find it very helpful to "jump tracks" occasionally! Helps me keep things fresh - guess that's necessary for me after 30 years of making my craft! :)
So this week I am indulging in some embroidery. I learned to embroidery when I was very small. My mom taught me and I remember making a little kitten potholder for my grandma...which, of course, she still has hanging in her kitchen. :) Grandmas.....wonderful people!
This week, I needed a wedding gift and decided on a dish towel with this cute hillbilly couple embroidered on it. I think I may just have to make some more of them for my shop - they are so cute! And I am enjoying the needlework. Today I am working on a cute little chicken - doing her laundry. You now, the cute sets that have a different picture for each day of the week. Anyway, will have to try to put a picture of her up when I have a bit more of her finished.
Then, I hope to make some peach jams and jellies next week. I was able to get a bunch of peaches at my local Sprouts store at a really great deal. They look so pretty!

I do hope your Friday and weekend are lovely. And if you are here reading this.....THANK YOU! :)

Fun Friday

For today's fun tid-bit I am posting a link for a website I just found today! I'm lately on the lookout for places I can order yarn from. There is only one specialty yarn shop in my area....at least that I know of! They have some lovely yarn but mostly the very high end stuff that I can only dream of affording. LOL
I'm one of those that truly loves the nicer fibers out there but am in the middle range of what I can justify spending on a skein! Anyway, I browse the internet occasionally, looking for good deals. I have found two shops I'd love to buy from - only problem being they are in Europe and the shipping prices would kill me! Of course, this is mostly because of how much I'd want to order....in order to get the deal on shipping overseas! :) Today, however, I ran across this site. They have a fairly good variety at good prices and they are in the US! Yay for me! Now to drool over yarn photos and try to decide what I want next time I have some yarn money!
Here's the link for Hugga Bugga Yarns - cute name, too, huh?! http://www.huggabugga.com/index.html Happy Weekend!!!

Thankful Thought

I truly was on here yesterday...all ready to post my Thankful Thought for Thursday....but I couldn't get on. Said Blogger was down or some such thing. Bummer.
Oh well! My thankful thought for yesterday can just as well go here before the Fun Friday post! LOL :) Learning to take the time to think about what one is thankful for is such a good thing to do. At times in my life I have thought, "But I am a thankful person" and then tried to make a list of things I am thankful for. Other than all the obvious things that is....i.e.food, water, shelter,etc.. You might be surprised at the work it takes sometimes to really focus on being thankful - especially during those "dry" spells in life. However, I have found that practicing thankfulness makes life so much better! :) So, my thankful thought for yesterday was for the nice cooler temps that are pushing through North Texas right now. I grew up in Colorado so the early summer/heat jump here is pretty hard on me....physically and emotionally. I like being outside! But not when it is swelteringly hot! We had jumped into the 90s here already and then rain came - another thing to be thankful for this year! - and it got very muggy...89% humidity - probably more I just didn't look again after that! HA! Anyway, after the rain the cool temps and breezes came back. It has dropped back down into the 50s at night and the 60/70s during the day. I sat, this morning, in my comfy chair by the window, enjoyed the breeze, the birds' songs my coffee and Bible. What a great start to the day. :)

Wednesday, May 11, 2011

Well it's Wednesday :)

And I've been gone FOREVER! What a crazy start to 2011 our family has had. But God is gracious and good to us and our Hope is in Him!
I have missed my little blog. Not sure anyone reads it really but I do enjoy keeping it up. Hopefully, things have settled down just a bit and I can get back to it!
So! What is everyone up to this fine May day? We here in North Texas have some storms rolling through. The rain is always nice and I love hearing the thunder and watching the lightening...until it get too close! haha :)
I have been trying to decide what to work on for my little Etsy shop next. Seems sales are so random that it is hard to know what to list. I hate to make a dozen of something when only one sells in a month or more! :) I did have a really big order for my little heart bookmarks last month! I was so thrilled! Someone was getting them for favors at a baby shower - what a cool idea! Think I should make them in other pastel colors for that sort of thing - maybe!
I have been into making flowers this past week. I've actually had sick peeps in my home and finally caved and got it myself so just random crocheting going on here. BUT, I really like the flowers - now to just decide what to do with them! Some of them are big. I've made flowers for projects - mostly thread - before but these are yarn and as big as my palm.
I also sold a few of the doll clothes I've made so that has been nice. There are several more outfits I'd like to try just not sure what will go. Of course, my daughter won't be too disappointed if they don't sell as she will most likely get them for her American Girl doll!
So, here are some pics of my recent meandering through my yarn and options. :) Have a great day!

Shop Spotlight - Tilesmiles

Here is the link to the shop of a sweet friend of mine. http://www.etsy.com/shop/tilesmile?ref=pr_shop_more We only met a couple of times and I am so glad we did! One of those rare friendships that just seemed to spark right away. Rachel makes these wonderful tiles with just fun sayings on them. My two say Deep in the Heart....Of Texas - of course! :) I like this one, too - may have to get another! I use mine, gently - no kids allowed on these - as a spoon rest for my tea time.
Some folks have her make bunches of these and use them as the back splash in their kitchen. Wouldn't that be neat?! So, go by and take a look, bet you'll find one, or two...or more that you love. :)

Fun Friday

So, what am I working on today? Well, I am working on getting together enough projects for a two hour crochet class today. I teach a class to 3 young girls once a week but we missed a week or two so, for fun, we are doing a couple two hour classes to make it up. They thought the one hour class went by pretty quickly and so, I think, have enjoyed the two hour spot we've had - this will be the second time we've done that.
Today we are making cute little loopy flowers - very easy and they'll be able to finish several in class. It is always nice for them to be able to finish something and get to take it home. This is a beginner/basics class so sticking with a project for a week or so can be a little tough! :) The other project I have for today is teaching them how to make yo-yos. Did you know you can crochet those?! :) Well, not the up and down toy type but round circles made from lots of DC (double crochet) that you can do so much with! I'm working on a hot mat for my table. Today the girls will work on rows of yo-yos though as the first one I started was rounds and that is a little more tricky.
Fun - Fun! :)
More later! Have a happy Friday,y'all!

Thankful Thought

Missed putting this up yesterday but wanted to make sure to include something I'm thankful for this week! I believe it is so important to make the choice to BE Thankful. :)
So! This week I am especially thankful for the results of my daughter's blood test (she is hypoglycemic), thankful for my mom's improving health, thankful for the GORGEOUS spring weather outside :), thankful for my little garden plot that I get to work at and try to grow something - carrots coming up as we speak and baby tomato plants inside getting ready to go outside!
I am thankful to wake up to the birds' singing - love hearing that in the mornings. Thankful for the flowers that are showing up everywhere. What a beautiful time of year.
What are you thankful for today?

Wool Gathering Wednesday

Hello Blog Land!!
Here I am trying to get back to my blog. Whew! What a crazy first 3 months of the year we had around here...as I am sure many of you also have had. I am looking forward to slowing down with crazy happenings around here for a bit. We found - so far - that my daughter is hypoglycemic and are working on getting her levels back to where they should be. She is still having some tummy problems and will go in for another test this weekend.
My mom is improving, slowly but surely. I am so thankful for that as well as for the chance I have to go help out for a few days. Here I come CO! That will be quite a change from our 80+ degrees back to snow and cold! Maybe I'll get some crocheting done while mom and I sit inside, warm and cozy, and visit! :)
I am working on some more American Girl size doll clothes....Spring colors! Oh yes, and an extra dress as my daughter's favorite sold - so must make her another. :) Otherwise, I am working away on an order for a bunch of my little heart bookmarks!
Makes me so happy that someone wants them! :) I think they are too cute and great bookmarks....but then I read quite a lot, too. I'm the crazy type that has at least four books going at one time, plus a stack of whatever magazine I've picked up! Lately the magazines are all about planting and gardening with the occasional crochet magazine I just couldn't pass up! Always looking for new patterns to try out. I really want to try Filet Crochet this summer. Besides it being beautiful it is also made with thread and so will not be so hot to work with when the temps go up around here. Yay!
Well, all for today, dear friends! I do sincerely hope I haven't lost you all! Have a nice Wednesday evening.

LIFE

Well, it seems that all relaxing and rest I got last month....the extra time to crochet and create...was a huge blessing from the Lord..shoring me up for the storms to come!
I am sorry, my blogging friends, to not have updated this page as often as I had wanted!
My family has had quite the month! Seems almost everyone we know has been hit with nasty illness this season, my little nephew had heart surgery, my daughter had a week of being very dizzy and passing out, my youngest sister had a baby (Yay!! Good news!) and now my mom is in the hospital. Whew. Do you ever feel like life is just spinning out of control around you?! I thank God that in spite of these feelings we have His assurance that, as His children, He has promised to never leave us. He IS always in control.
God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way,
though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble at its swelling.

Psalm 46:1-2
I do hope you all will be here when I get back! I will be MIA for awhile....until we figure out what's up with my mom, most likely.
Praying y'all have a good weekend!

Today I am Thankful For....

All of YOU who read this blog!! Truly, I didn't know if anyone would read my blog! So, you are a huge blessing to me and it makes me just thrilled to know y'all do look and read and maybe even enjoy things here a little. :)
I am also thankful today for EBAY!! I bought some neat yarn, early this week, that was a discontinued type that I needed for a pattern I found and really didn't want to sub another type. So!! I found the yarn and it got here yesterday! How fun! Now to make the soft lacy shawl it is for.
Hope y'all have a very Thankful Thursday!

Oh Dear

Well, it's Wednesday....late.... and I've missed my Tuesday post and today's post.
I have been sitting up at the Children's hospital with my sister while my nephew has surgery on his heart. A very long couple of days. So I'm sorry to have disappeared on you - my blog friends but I'll be back soon!! :)
Ok - here is a Tuesday Tip for you. :) When stocking your yarn travel bag....to take to occupy the time in the hospital waiting rooms....don't forget your scissors!!! Silly me! I finished a project but had no scissors to finish it off and my other project was a wrap....3 colors....changing rows....no scissors! So - don't forget the scissors! haha
Hoping y'all are having a splendid week. The sun is shining here and I've enjoyed getting out in it at least a little here and there.
Talk to you more soon. :)

Spotlight Saturday

Since I have not had a chance to ask anyone to be the spotlight person/shop....I thought I'd just show off a few of my favorite items that I've found on Etsy. So many talented people there!
First of all I think these little flowers are TOO cute! They have been sitting there tempting me to snatch them up for about two weeks now. http://www.etsy.com/listing/65596126/spring-crochet-3d-flowers-set-of-four

These are from AngelHareForest on Etsy.

This is one of my favorite bags from my friend at 3anniemouse3.
Such a fun button print and as I love to sew, too, this appeals to me on that end. Well, it could hold yarn so got that craft covered as well! http://www.etsy.com/listing/66701590/original-shopping-bag-tote

And this vase is SO gorgeous!! Isn't it?!?! I just love it. Such neat colors and read how this lady makes this particular look - so interesting!

FUN FRIDAY

New idea for posts.....We'll see how I do! LOL
My husband has Mondays off so that will be my off day, too!
Tips and Tricks Tuesday -- Sharing little tidbits I've learned/gathered
Wool Gathering Wednesday -- whatever I think of that I'd like to share with my blogging friends
Thankfulness Thursday -- A day to be thankful for all we've been given.....yarn being one of my favorites! :)
Fun Friday -- Fun projects I'm working on or would like to try
Spotlight Saturday -- Hopefully, little blurbs about other crafty people (and I mean "crafty" in the best sense!)
I am hoping this will lend a little more structure to my blogging....as I am not a natural but really hope to improve and create posts that are both informative and interesting.
SO!! For the first official Fun Friday....First a fun fact.....
Where does mohair yarn come from?
And then on to my fun thing for the day. I am making a shawl....FOR ME!!! As many of you crochet and knitting folk know, we often do not keep many of our lovelies as they are made for friends and family gifts. Well, that would be me! I have made over 20 afghans and not kept one for me....ahem, well, my husband paid for one after a craft show...that wasn't quite finished....for me to keep - ISN'T HE GREAT?!?! - and it still isn't finished! But...SOMEDAY!! :) I have made oodles and oodles of doilies, scarves, hats, appliques, dish rags and so on and so forth and until recently, I hadn't kept much for myself. Well, shawls are my new thing as I've only ever made ponchos, so I decided what better way to get a feel for the patterns than to make one guinea pig shawl....for me! :) haha I am actually making it out of various "leftover" yarn from the ponchos I've made so it will be interesting in color combination but great for wearing around my house! I am using Lion Brand Homespun yarn scraps. It will at least be soft! I'll post a pic as soon as there is something to show. That is what I did today...no work...just fun. It was nice. :)

OK - mohair yarn - where does it come from? Goats! :) Sometimes other fiber is mixed in with it but the mohair part comes from the goat. Here is a little info that I found very interesting.
It is one of the oldest textile fibers in use. It is both durable and resilient. It is notable for its high luster and sheen, and is often used in fiber blends to add these qualities to a textile. Mohair also takes dye exceptionally well. Mohair is also warm as it has great insulating properties. It is durable, and resistant to moisture-wicking, stretch, flame and creases. It is considered to be a luxury fiber, like cashmere, angora and silk, and is usually more expensive than most wool that comes from sheep.
And here is a picture of Mr. Goat...who is in fact, an angora goat. :) Cute huh?! Wonder if my hubby would let me have one!!! :) NOT!

Just for Fun

This pic doesn't do the blanket justice! Arg!
Well, we got hit with the cold again this week. Not that I'm complaining....I have totally enjoyed staying in, drinking my hot coffee and working on all the heavy crochet that is not so easy to do when the temps get above 100! :) Anyway, I just took a couple pics of various projects that are in the works. Yes, I'm one of those types with several projects started at one time. LOL  I do have high hopes of having at least 3 of those finished this week! Yay! What have y'all been up to during these chilly cold days?
Heart rug, Valentine scarf....

poncho order...such gorgeous colors!

Grannies!!!

yarn!! yarn!! yarn!!

Today

Hello Blog Friends!! :)
Tonight I have been working on some cute little hats I am making for Easter brooches. I want to make some teeny weeny flowers to put on the hats but so far haven't figured out how to make a flower teeny tiny enough!! It's frustrating when you have an idea in the head and can't make the thread and fingers "DO IT"!! :) Hopefully, I'll get it figured out soon and then I'll post some pics. The rain (possible snow) and cold temps are coming back to North Texas tonight. I'm hoping I don't have to drive on ice tomorrow to work. We shall see!
Good night, friends! And stay warm!

Stretching My Wings

Ok - so after almost more than 30 years of crochet I am feeling the urge to try different yarns than I am accustomed to. So far, honestly, I have purchased most of my yarn from my local Hobby Lobby store. It is a wonderful place and they have a great variety but I'm seeing so many more options now!! And, of course, I can't resist yarn....any kind....any color!!!
So - what is your favorite yarn and where do you get it?

Let us therefore, come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Yarny Stuff

I just couldn't resist trying to get a good picture of a few of my latest yarny projects! OH!! I miss my camera! My sweet son is letting me use his until I am able to replace mine but it just doesn't take pics like mine did. However! I just had to try. :) I've started a blanket for my couch. No money to replace the couch...sad - but comfy :) - old couch needs a face lift. So, I decided to make a bright colorful cover for it. We'll see how long it takes me but at least it's a start! I want to re-decorate my living room and figured it has to start somewhere....baby steps! haha!
I got the idea for this blanket from a lovely blog I found by accident....Lucy calls this a Granny Stripe. I love it! http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/ And I love her blog....such bright pretty colors! It's inspiring and helps me to see what I'd like to make things look like around here. Oh, to have my hard wood floors back...miss those, too. We shall see what sort of color changes I am able to make around here this year! Exciting!

I'm also working on a scarf for Valentine's Day. It is so sweet and has the illusion of little bitty hearts in it's spaces.
Hope y'all stay cozy on this chilly February day!

Winter Wasn't Quite Done

This is what it looked like outside my front door today. Crazy! I don't remember this much ice on the streets since I was a kid! I could just get my ice skates out and play - the ice is thick enough!

Sleet...Icy Rain...COLD!!!

What is it about the cold that makes me want to make things?! Perhaps it is because it will be too cold to sanely think of doing much else! AND - while I crochet I can snuggle up under an afghan and keep warm. Add a nice hot cup of coffee set close by and it sounds just about perfect. :) What will you be doing this icy, cold week?
I plan on finishing a couple of projects as well as starting a new one. I have wanted to try Filet crochet for awhile now and have decided on a pattern lately that I am hoping will be a good beginner pattern - and then just maybe it will become my Christmas gifts for this next Christmas! Wouldn't that be just dandy!

Welcome!!

This is now the new home of  the FlutterBuggCreations blog. Follow here to see what I'm up to these days...lots of new things being made and several going up in my shop @ Etsy!!
